It could be worse, if you live in Australia the cable is cheap but the freight charge is based on the cost per ounce of launching a commercial satellite into parking orbit.

I was able to solve my Gibson Web Store ordering problem just now and ordered the cables.  I noticed that some have mentioned that they did not get an Order Acknowledgement.  I actually got an Email Order Acknowledgement moments after placing my order.  Except for the deleted, private information (shown in "<<>>"), here is the email I received:

I got the same e-mail as you on Thursday, when I ordered. The money was debited from my account on Friday. I have rung CS in Nashville 3 times to find out if my order has been shipped and have yet to get an answer!!

ShopUSA sent me an email letting me know they received my parcel from GIbson! Wohoo! Gibson sent me an order acknowledgment when I placed the order but they never sent me a follow-up note indicating my order has shipped. Oh well.

I wouldn't expect one. I chose Fedex Home Delivery option as that was the cheapest and the parcel just showed up at ShopUSA. They didn't even bother to let me know it had shipped let alone the tracking #. I bet you will get it soon.

Elantric - well I guess Gibson opened enough holes in their firewall to allow you to spend money on their site, eh!

I guess I lucked out.   Much earlier in this lengthy thread, I shared that I ordered cables from a local AV cable specialist company.  The cable company sent me a bid & a bunch of info and we swapped a few emails over the details.  After I told them to proceed, they fell off the face of the earth.  They never answered my emails after their initial confirmation that they were on it...

So, instead of a $150 professionally made cable, I am now getting a $15 Gibson made cable.

All this, & I sure hope it will work with my old GR30!

Interesting...

Got a phone call from Gibson two days ago, saying they sent me the wrong cable in error.  The new one is on its way.  For my inconvenience, they will be sending me the new cable along with a t-shirt.

Got a box today, with a fully functional hex cable, a t-shirt and a cap...

Never received the 'wrong' cable.

So, I have in fact confirmed it works great with a GR-30.   Only problem is changing the patches on the device, but I can live with that.   Will need to experiment a bit to figure out how much I like the latency, but so far it seems negligible.   Maybe even better than the GK2A I had????   Hmmm....

Shawnb, thats Great news!

I still have not seen ANY of my packages yet -

And never got a tracking number - Fedex has slipped huge in past 6 years here in my location, based on my direct experience (lots of mail order here!)

I also have an old GR-30. But i know the limits of Guitar to MIDI  - been doing it since 1986 and my old 24 pin GM-70 and GK-1, and i always have low expectations and I know excellent playing technique is 90% of the hurdle.

I can access the Gibson main site, and make online Gibson purchases - just can not access the Gibson Forum from work or home - its blank screen, and I have cleared out all the cookies in my browser.

Only way I can view Gibson Forum is with my Iphone via AT&T 3G network.

I see I'm not missing anything, as that forum seems to be focused on the same tired old thread topics, like
"My SG can beat up your Les Paul"

or

"Is my new Gibson a Fake?"

On Saturday Fedex  delivered two Firewire cables.

Today I got two RIP to Roland Cables along with a hat and a T-Shirt.

Me too...The gift hat & T was declared at full value on the customs doc and not declared as gifts but thankfully I was not asked to pay tax. I'm thinking the tax man in Oz might be tougher. Good luck to our friends Down Under who ordered and will get replacements with swag!

Mini Bummer:  I got home today to find two boxes: 1) 2 Firewire cables, the box in error; 2) a hat, a shirt, and ONE "MIDI" cable!!!  So, I had to call in again to let them know that I got only one cable of two that I ordered and had paid.  I will get a 3rd box some day in the future....  At least I have 1 cable for DF.  (Not sure yet if it is the same as the cable that came with the DT).

More fun, though, I got the Alto Music order of a GK-3, a Cable for GK-3 to VG-99, and some Gibson top hat knobs. He he. But, again, mini-bummer.  I have to leave for Salem OR tomorrow.  :'(
